Most Puerto Rico fishing charters are easy to find year-round.

Fishing is big business year-round and there are always a few charter companies available. You’ll find that there are many different types of boats as well, sizes generally range from 32′ to about 50′ and the fish vary as the seasons change. You will find that during December through April you will be fishing for mahi-mahi, white marlin, yellowfin tuna, and wahoo. From October to the first days of March it is the time of the great dorado, the sailfish and the white marlins.

Deep sea fishing charters in Puerto Rico are generally chartered for a full day or a half day. Many companies will add the captain and his first mate to get you off to a great start. The amenities include all the equipment you may need, ice and some types of soft drinks. Most boats allow up to 6 passengers and the fishing starts almost immediately. It is important to reserve the boat as soon as possible with the charter you are going to use.

If you don’t like the deep sea fishing part, you might want to enjoy a great afternoon of bass or tarpon fishing. For this you can find some big fish in Puerto Rico, there have been reports of people catching those 300 pound tarpon. For these charters, charter companies may offer half or full day trips with boats that are approximately 16′ and 18′ and typically have brand names such as Hewes and Maverick boats.

Many people are interested in lighter fishing trips where they try to catch light fish, usually tarpon, trevally, mangrove snapper, snook, and barracuda. Many of these companies also offer scuba diving, bird watching, hiking, and kayaking. Many times the trip will include the bait, the tackle, and sometimes soft drinks and water, there are even some that have food. The average price for this service is about $250 for a half day and about $375 for a full day. However, many places will allow their clients the opportunity to customize the day with their Puerto Rico fishing charter.
