Onset Village is a small New England seaside town with many years of New England history. We moved to Onset three years ago, renting a house to determine what the trip to Canton and Braintree would be like.

We found the commute to be tolerable, and driving through this beautiful seaside town every morning gave us something to look forward to after a hard day at the office, the drive home, and the incredible sunset every night.

We enjoyed the town so much that we bought an old Victorian home here two years ago and we don’t regret making that difficult decision. This is a great small town community, I just had to write about it, so here are my top ten reasons to visit or reside in Onset.

1 – The beaches here are exceptional, sure in the summer a little crowded, but during the rest of the year, especially in spring and fall, you can almost call them your own.

2 – Onset Bay (land side) is amazing, a mix of several style homes right on the boardwalk, small fishing and pleasure boats tied to their moorings, and a beautiful sunset every night.

3 – Onset Bay (ocean side) looking towards Onset Bay beyond Wicket’s Island, and the canal leading to the Cape Cod Canal is just stunning, especially in the summer when the canal is very busy with pleasure boats and lots of freighters .

4 – Kick-off events throughout the summer, including many that are free, such as the Cape Verde Festival, the Swan Festival, Movies in the Park, and many others.

5 – Night of illumination in August where flares are lit around Onset Bay on the ocean side, if you have never seen this, it is worth seeing at least once in your life.

6 – Of course, the Annual Onset Blues Festival, which has expanded from evening to night in some of our excellent establishments.

7 – The people you will meet here are friendly, enter one of our restaurants or shops and you will be greeted with a courteous greeting and friendly conversation. especially if you’re here for breakfast … you must eat at Stevie’s Pier View restaurant … tell Dottie that Steve and Dolores sent you.

8 – Being in the Cape without all the traffic, I know that people think that you have to cross the bridge to get to the Cape, it is not true … a visit here will prove it.

9 – Fall, winter and spring … the population really decreases and you can enjoy the whole city to yourself.

10 – The beginning must be paradise … well, maybe not, but it sure feels that way after the daily grind of working in Boston every day.

So come on up or down and visit us, we always have our welcome mat outside … who knows, you may decide to stay permanently, which has been great for us and I’m sure it will be great for you too.
