While some may deny it, it’s only a matter of time until the zombie apocalypse happens and when that day comes, will you be ready? Even though your chances of survival are slim, if you prepare properly, you will at least have a chance of surviving. Part of that means having the right getaway vehicle. Consider these points.
It stands to reason that you need something big that shuffles through errant packs of corpses, so an SUV is your best bet. Don’t use a truck because if you store the equipment on the bed, you will have to jump to retrieve it and expose yourself to a bite. As with a wildlife safari, stay in the vehicle and do not feed the animals.
If possible, your SUV should be a 4×4. You may have to walk down wooden back roads and across desolate stretches of dirt. You also need something that won’t get stuck in a military roadblock in case you need to get through one on your escape. This is not the time for a luxury Escalade or Hummer, they use a lot of gas and you will need to save as much as possible. Pick a hybrid SUV if you can.
Don’t skimp on expenses when it comes to extras, as they can save your life. A wench will be one of the most useful attachments you can get. You never know when you’ll need to remove a burnt out vehicle so it doesn’t block your path. Put it in the rear for more power and you may need the front to get the snow thrower through obstacles. A trailer hitch will also allow you to tow an RV and carry more supplies.
The lighting will also be incredibly useful. Purchase a high-power ceiling-mounted auxiliary light rack. This will come in handy to illuminate strange noises at night. A cigarette lighter on a 1,000-watt candle will also serve to attract the undead heading your way.
Buy good off-road tires for off-roading too. You never know when you’ll have to pull off the road or drive over old police spikes. Take some Fix-A-Flats and a spare too. Raise your SUV a bit so your axles don’t get caught in them. After all, fighting monsters calls for a monster truck.
A long range ham radio is also a good idea. This will allow you to listen to survivor broadcasts (if any) and the last remaining safe zones you can try to reach. Make sure you are familiar with all emergency frequencies.
Look, we all know this is going to happen sooner or later. It could be the result of a government experiment gone terribly wrong, or some virus from outer space. Either way, you’ll need to be ready to make your escape, and having the right vehicle will help you do so.
