Celebrated on October 31, Halloween was a fire festival of the Samhain of the Celts. A sign of the end of summer and the close of harvest time, it is also celebrated as a New Year’s Eve for Celtic and Anglo-Saxon times. The change of a year was like magic for the Celts. It was believed that the souls of the dead would visit their respective homes on this day. Witches were also said to be active on Halloween. To ward off witches, people lit huge bonfires, turning the day into a fire festival.
